Emergency Response Program

JISAO researchers in NOAA's Emergency Response Program work to improve critical response information in emergency situations and to reduce the human and environmental impacts of pollution events. The Emergency Response Program provides emergency responders with high quality and timely scientific information. Ocean observing systems, computer software tools, GIS and satellite imagery are all used to supply information to responders and to guide the selection of response strategies. The highly interdisciplinary tasks involved in this work require that the researchers in this group possess a wide range of skills and expertise that encompass:

  • oceanography
  • chemistry
  • technical communications
  • software development
