Around the Americas

ATA logoAround the Americas is a circumnavigation by sailboat of the North and South American continents to examine ocean health and marine conservation. The sailboat, Ocean Watch, departed Seattle on May 31, 2009 and will return on June 20, 2010.

JISAO has contributed a hand-held sun photometer which scientists are using to measure the brightness of the sun at the earth's surface under non-cloudy conditions. The data will be compared to NASA's satellite-based measurements and supplement NASA's ground-based photometer network.
