K-12

JISAO works with nationally recognized University of Washington and NOAA K-12 programs to provide science content and activities. By working in partnership with established programs, JISAO is able to provide enhanced opportunities for underrepresented groups and nurture the next generation of scientists by fostering enthusiasm for science.

JISAO collaborates on three main educational projects:

NOAA Science Camp

JISAO scientists participate each year in NOAA Science Camp offering opportunities for seventh and eighth graders to explore marine science and have fun at the same time. Participants are introduced to earth and ocean sciences and to science careers through hands-on activities emphasizing solutions to real-world problems.

Thank You!

"Thank you for all of your hard work in producing Get Your Head in the Clouds: Weather and Water in Washington State. The interactive activities were fantastic. We appreciate the thought, care, and creativity that went into this learning experience for our high school students."

UW GEAR UP

JISAO researchers and graduate students participate in the University GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Summer Institute. The Summer Institute brings middle school students from around the state of Washington to campus each summer for a college immersion experience.

UW DO-IT

JISAO researchers and graduate students provide science workshops for University of Washington DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology). DO-IT serves to increase the participation of individuals with disabilities in challenging academic programs and careers.
