JISAO Scientists Host Briefing with the Media on new IPCC Report
Philip Mote, Research Scientist with the JISAO Center for Science in the Earth System and Washington State Climatologist, held a briefing on Wednesday, January 31, with reporters from various Pacific Northwest media outlets to discuss the latest findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report. The briefing gave the media an opportunity to learn more about the IPCC’s key findings as they prepared stories for the report’s release on February 3.
Media at the briefing included the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Seattle Times, Associated Press, Oregonian (Portland), News-Tribune (Tacoma), KING-TV, and KPLU 88.5 FM radio (Seattle).
Also in attendance were Thomas Ackerman (JISAO), Edward Sarachik (Center for Science in the Earth System), Chris Bretherton (UW Atmospheric Sciences and Applied Mathematics), and Eric Steig (UW Earth and Space Sciences). Dr. Mote was lead author on Chapter 4, Observations: Changes in Snow, Ice and Frozen Ground, in the first volume of the Fourth Assessment Report Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis.
