Dr. Tsann-Wang Yu, NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences Distinguished Scientist

Dr. Tsann-Wang Yu is a Graduate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Howard University and Distinguished Scientist for the NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences.  His areas of research include atmospheric and oceanic dynamics and numerical weather prediction; atmospheric and ocean data analyses and assimilation; synoptic and mesoscale weather analyses and forecasting; numerical modeling of the atmospheric and oceanic boundary layer flows.  Dr. Yu was a co-investigator from 1997 – 2000 on a joint research project between the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and the University of Washington titled “Improving Oceanic Storm Forecasting and Analyses through Assimilation of Remote Sensing Data.”  He is an emeritus research meteorologist of the NOAA Marine Modeling and Analysis Branch, which is responsible for the development of improved marine numerical weather and prediction modeling and analysis systems within NCEP and the National Weather Service.
