With support from JISAO’s Diversity and Outreach Program, the Earth Science Women’s Network (ESWN) hosted a reception during the Fall American Geophysical Union Meeting in San Francisco. Over 70 female research scientists, graduate students, professors, program managers, consultants and policy analysts attended the reception held on December 12th.
ESWN’s mission is to connect women in the Earth sciences, promoting career development, community building, informal mentoring and support, and facilitating professional collaborations. The ESWN event during the Fall AGU Meeting provides a forum for informal professional and social networking among female attendees. Meredith G. Hastings (UW/JISAO), Erika Marín-Spiotta (University of California Santa Barbara) and Tracey Holloway (University of Wisconsin-Madison) organized this year’s reception. In addition to JISAO, the reception was generously supported through funding from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and Environmental Research Letters (ERL) journal.

ESWN serves its members via a listserv sponsored by NCAR, helping our members to establish connections, share job announcements, discuss professional life, find roommates for meetings, and organize get-togethers at conferences. Through the listserv and informal gatherings during annual conferences (AGU, ASLO and AMS), ESWN serves as a clearinghouse for connecting women across all facets of the earth sciences. More information about ESWN can be found at sage.wisc.edu/eswn/. |
